I want to tell you about someone who changed me in ways I’m still discovering.
Her name was Peanut Butter. Yes, she was a dog, but she was also one of my best friends.
If you’ve ever had a pet who felt more like family, you’ll understand exactly what I mean.
Some friendships change you forever. Some souls walk into your life and leave a mark so deep, it becomes part of who you are.
For me, that soul was a dog named Peanut Butter. She wasn’t “just a pet.”
She was one of my best friends, the kind you don’t get many of in a lifetime.
Even though she’s no longer here, her memory lives with me every single day. And in so many ways, she’s still teaching me how to be better.
“Let me tell you about her…”
Peanut Butter wasn’t the kind of dog who just existed in the background of your life. She was the kind who felt everything with you.
Peanut Butter had this incredible gift, she felt everything. If I was sad, she knew.
If I was frustrated, overwhelmed, disappointed, or crying, she didn’t hesitate. She came right to me, sat down, and stayed until I could breathe again.
Her presence alone was enough. When I felt like I had no one to talk to, she became my person. My safe place. My steady heartbeat in the middle of chaos. She was my person when I felt like I didn’t have one.
“She kept me from falling apart”
There were days when I felt like I was barely holding myself together, and she somehow sensed it before I even said a word. She’d curl up next to me, press her head against my chest, and it was like she was saying, “I’ve got you. You’re not alone.”
She was my rock, steady, and always there.
There were moments in my life when I felt like I was falling apart, and she was the one who kept me grounded. She had this quiet strength, gentle, patient, unwavering.
She reminded me that I could get through hard things. She reminded me that I wasn’t alone. She reminded me that love doesn’t always need words. And I didn’t realize how much strength she gave me until she wasn’t physically here anymore.
Peanut Butter had this softness about her that people felt instantly. She didn’t have to try. She just… glowed.
Anyone who met her fell in love with her almost immediately. She had that rare kind of spirit, kind, patient, welcoming, and so full of quiet love. She was kind to everyone. Gentle with everything. A little beam of light wrapped in fur. She didn’t judge. She didn’t rush. She simply showed up with her whole heart, every single time.
“Losing her was hard… but remembering her is everything”
I won’t pretend losing her was easy. It wasn’t.
Something broke in me for a while.
But remembering her, that’s where the healing lives now.
I remember her warmth. Her eyes. Her gentle presence. Her silly moments. Her loyalty. Her love. Her goofy moments. And her nose of course. She is forever a glow in my heart, woven into who I am. And honestly, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
“She made me better”
Peanut Butter taught me more about love, patience, and kindness than most humans ever have. She taught me how to slow down. How to be present. How to show up for others the way she always showed up for me. She taught me that kindness matters. I’m a better person because she walked beside me, and because she still walks with me in memory. In the way I try to live with the same gentleness she gave so freely.
So, when I talk about Peanut Butter, I’m not just talking about a dog.
I’m talking about a friend. A teacher. A companion.
A steady light in some of my darkest moments.
She changed me. She loved me.
And she will always be part of me.
Her memory isn’t just something I carry, it’s something that carries me.
And she will always be one of the greatest blessings of my life.
